China Open 2025: Competition Insight – Experience Tennis at Its Peak
A Three-Week Tennis Festival in Beijing
The China Open returns to the National Tennis Center in Beijing from 14 September to 5 October 2025, marking Asia’s first three-week elite tennis event. It kicks off with an ITF J300 junior tournament (14–21 Sept), escalates into the women’s WTA 1000 phase (22 Sept–5 Oct), and culminates with the men’s ATP 500 competition (23 Sept–1 Oct).
Upgrades to the Center include a new fan-friendly entrance via the South Square, five international-standard courts, a garden-style clay-themed viewing area, and enhanced acoustics and sound systems on Shouchuang Diamond Court.
Venue and Court Setup
Located in Chaoyang, the National Tennis Center has hosted the tournament since 2009. Its flagship Diamond Court seats 15,000 under a retractable roof. Supporting courts include Lotus (10,000 seats), Moon (4,000) and Brad Drewett (2,000), alongside 35 training courts.
Tournament Structure
The women’s side features a 96-player singles draw (with 32 seeds earning byes into the second round) and 32 pairs in doubles. Champions earn 1,000 ranking points and share a total prize pool of close to $9 million.
For the men, the ATP 500 tournament hosts a 32-player singles draw and a 16-team doubles draw. Prize money stands at around $3.8 million, with the singles winner taking home roughly $695,750 and 500 ranking points.
Elite Player Line-Up
Confirmed names include world No. 1 Jannik Sinner, No. 3 Alexander Zverev, and Grand Slam champion Daniil Medvedev. On the WTA side, top seeds like Aryna Sabalenka, defending champion Coco Gauff, and 2023 winner Iga Świątek are set to compete. Rising Chinese star Zheng Qinwen will also feature, representing the host nation.
Memorable Match Highlights Expected
The expanded women’s draw echoes four other WTA 1000 events (Indian Wells, Miami, Madrid, Rome), boosting excitement and unpredictability in early rounds. For men, the presence of top-ranked international players makes Beijing one of the strongest ATP 500 fields.
Prize Money & Ranking Stakes
The women’s champion will earn an estimated $1.1 million, with runner-up receiving $585,000. ATP payouts include $374,340 for the finalist and $199,495 for semi-finalists. These stakes significantly impact season-end rankings.
Why China Open 2025 Matters
This tournament stands out as the pinnacle of the Asian tennis calendar, combining deep fields, top-tier draws, and state-of-the-art facilities. It’s a critical stop on both tours—offering ranking points, exposure and memorable matchups late in the season.
Looking Ahead
Qualifying rounds for WTA begin 22 September, and ATP starts 23 September. Main-draw action follows: 25 September for women and 26 September for men. Finals are scheduled for early October—the WTA singles final on 4–5 Oct, with the men’s title decided on 1 Oct .
